Keuka Lake

Keuka Lake Permitting Process

“Under ARTICLE 15, ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION LAW IMPLEMENTED BY 6NYCRR PART 608, regulations govern the “use and Protection of Waters, “ essentially requiring permits for any activity that could disturb or alter the state’s water bodies”

Typically project in the Finger Lakes require permitting. The permitting process can be different per project, lake, and town. Various agencies issue permits such as the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers, the New York Office of General Services, NYS Department of State and local town Code Enforcement.

Lake, and project depending, a Joint Application and documentation may be required to be submitted to these agencies. Each governmental agency has their own regulations that must be met for them to determine whether a permit for construction is necessary and/or if it will be issued by their agency.

Keuka Lake - Docks & Custom Boat Lifts & Hoists

Keuka Lake is governed by the Uniform Docks and Mooring Law, requiring applications and documentation to be filed with the local town Code Enforcement Officer. Depending on your project's scope, a meeting with the town board may be necessary. A real property survey depicting the mean-high water line, water rights lines and the ten foot set back is a standard requirement along with drawings and other documentation.

Keuka Lake's distinctive Y-shape begins at Penn Yan and Branchport at the tops of the "Y" and extends to Hammondsport at the bottom. East and West Bluff separate the branches of the "Y," creating unique water conditions throughout the lake. The northern end has been known to freeze during winter, which must be considered in dock design and installation.

These specific characteristics of Keuka Lake influence dock and boat lift installations. Brawdy Marine has extensive experience with Keuka Lake's unique shape and conditions, handling all permit applications and required documentation to ensure your dock or custom boat lift project complies with all regulations while providing optimal functionality for your specific location on the lake.

Keuka Lake - Seawall Construction and Repair

Seawall construction and repair projects on Keuka Lake require complete Joint Application documentation for all work beyond the mean high-water mark. The town where your project is located may also require a construction permit. Brawdy Marine will complete permit application packages to move forward with securing the requisite permits from all applicable agencies.

Keuka Lake's distinctive Y-shape creates varied water movement patterns that impact shoreline erosion and seawall performance. The northern end's typical winter freezing pattern adds another factor that must be considered in seawall design and construction to ensure durability and effectiveness.

Brawdy Marine has specialized knowledge of Keuka Lake's unique conditions, managing the entire permitting process for seawall projects while creating solutions that protect your property and comply with all regulatory requirements. We understand that retaining walls, decks not over water, and stairs require local town permits, which we handle as part of our comprehensive service.
